SASheet - The Digital Contact sheet creator
What does SASheet do?In photography, a "contact sheet" is a photograph made by exposing a group of images onto a single piece of photographic paper. It is cheaper and faster than printing each photograph individually and it allows you to compare images side by side so that you can decide which of them you want to print full-size. SASheet performs a similar task, using image files.

A simple contact sheet created with SASheet.
How does it do that? You specify an input folder that contains your image files and from these files, SASheet will create image files that are themselves made up of one or more of your images, along with labels, background images and text. This is all accomplished through the use of templates.
Templates? An SASheet document is also known as a "layout" and a "template". When you create an SASheet layout, you are really creating a template which SASheet will fill in using your own images. Templates are filled in with your images until all of the available image positions (also known as dynamic images) are taken. Then the image is written, the template is cleared and the next set of images are loaded for placement. Some objects in a layout such as text, backgrounds and static images are static: they don't change from one sheet to the next. Some are dynamic, they are filled in as SASheet works its way through the list of input images. These dynamic images are where the real power resides in SASheet.
How do I create a template? You create a template by adding static and dynamic images, backgrounds and text blocks then positioning all of these on your layout. You can do all of this interactively: drag images and text to position them, change image and text properties with double clicks or context menus, etc..

OK. What else does SASheet do?You can use SASheet's powerful text expression evaluator to create dynamic text for any text block in your layout. If you've used our ThumbNailer program, you may be familiar with the way it allows you to place custom dynamic text into your HTML layouts. SASheet uses an expression system similar to ThumbNailer's. It is an extremely powerful and easy to use method of creating text that changes based on the input files.
Sounds great. How can I try it?I'm glad you asked... Download the full working version of SASheet here: Download from SmallerAnimals.com. You can use SASheet for as long as you want, with one restriction: each layout that SASheet renders will have a big red "X" drawn in the middle of it. If you register the program, this limitation goes away, of course. I want to register! Great! (we knew you would) The cost is a mere $20, US. There are two ways to register SASheet.
